5 Tips for Finding Your Perfect Work/Life Balance

Are you feeling like your life is all about work, and there is no time for your family or just having some fun? Whether you are just starting as an entrepreneur or you’ve been doing this a while, finding work/life balance can be a challenge. What is the best way to find balance? Is it even possible? Here are five tips to help you find the magic and get your life back.

1. Set some boundaries.

If you feel like you are working around the clock and can’t ever say no to a client – the magic you are missing is having limits for your business. Is it a little scary to set boundaries? Yes, however, it is the only way you can escape the hamster wheel you are spending the day running on. What might implementing boundaries look like for you?

  • Set office hours.

  • Learn to say no (you won’t lose all your clients, I promise!).

  • Set boundaries around answering work texts, phone calls, and emails outside of your working hours.

2. Time block.

Time blocking is a trick that helps you stay focused and plan your time wisely. It will also help you to block out distractions and stay focused on the task at hand. Essentially it is taking each part of your day and planning what you’ll do during that block of time.

  • Establish dedicated times to check and respond to emails and inquiries.

  • Block off a set day or time for uninterrupted work.

  • Schedule downtime – no one, not even you, can work 24/7!

 3. Find time for self-care.

Self-care isn’t selfish! Set aside time to exercise, eat healthily, drink water, and nourish your soul in whatever way works for you. Self-care isn’t all about manicures and bath bombs (but it can be). Find what works for you and block off time to take care of you! Making time for self-care may mean you have to sneak in time when the kids are in bed or after a long day at work – but it is vital to your long-term health and well-being.

4. Set a top 3 for the day.

Your to-do list may feel endless, but taking a few minutes in the morning to set your top 3 most important tasks for the day will make you much more productive and give you focus. Doing this allows you to set manageable goals for the day and reduces that feeling of dread and overwhelm.

5. Unplug.

Yes, I said it. Set aside time to turn off your devices, turn off your notifications, and rest. Getting away from technology, even for a few hours, can help you refocus, regain calm, and feel rejuvenated. Take a few days off, or even a more extended vacation at least once a year – even if that means camping in the backyard so that you can really disconnect.
