4 ways to stop treating your business like a hobby
I know you may be thinking, “I don’t treat my business like a hobby! I’m working hard over here!” But, let’s do a little check, stick with me here. Are you truly consistent with working your business? Do you have clear working hours? Are you channeling your inner boss on the daily? Do you have a business strategy, or are you flying by the seat of your pants?
If you can’t say that you are consistently doing what it takes to drive your business forward, maybe you are treating it more like a hobby. I get it; you are busy. Perhaps you are still at your 9-5 hustle, or the kids are home due to this global pandemic, or you are just tired – but let’s pack up all those roadblocks and tackle some easy ways to get out of the hobby mindset and set your business growth on fire.
Set aside the time. Your business won’t run itself, and even if you have a million other things on your plate, you have to have some boundaries about the time you want to invest in your business. Just like a plant, your business won’t grow unless you “water” it regularly.
Work on a strategy. What are your goals, and how will you get there? If you haven’t set clear goals for your business and a plan for how you want to meet them, you’ve just got a pile of dreams on your plate. Be realistic about your goals, and turn those dreams into plans!
Get your marketing right. Consistently showing up with a cohesive brand will help to set you apart from the competition. Your success will depend on your marketing efforts across social media, your website, and other online and in-person networking opportunities.
Mindset matters. I know you can make this more than a hobby, but to do it, you’ve got to channel your inner CEO daily! Know your worth, bring value, and use your leadership skills. Start calling yourself a business owner or a CEO – because you are! Own it!
Commit to making these four steps part of your day-to-day, and I promise you’ll see growth – you’ve got this, boss!
